Houston to Lafayette

Having spent 4 days with Joe, Amy and family, it was time to get back on the road.  With help from everyone in Houston we had put together a rough plan to cross over to the east coast through Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and into Florida.  Our first stop would be in Cajun country and we ended up staying at the KOA in Scott just outside Lafayette.

The drive was fairly uneventful except for 2 issues:  The first being the road conditions in Louisiana.  I thought California had the worst roads in the country but this misnomer quickly changed as we left Texas and hit the bumpiest interstate I’ve traveled on.  Talk about not knowing how to pour concrete !  That big trailer tugged on the truck all the way to our destination.  If the Texans (whose highways are as smooth as you’ll ever find) can do it right why not the others.  The second issue being the speed limit, but hey, who am I to quibble over why they have to drive at 55 in some states and 75 or 80 like in Texas folks ?

The KOA campground in Scott turned out to be a good spot to settle for a few days.  Its central to the general Cajun culture and not to close to bustling New Orleans.  Ample space for big rigs and 5th wheelers.  An irritant is the proximity to I-10 but a few drinks with dinner takes care of that problem.
